Footwear Fit for Legendary Trails: ArmaSkin

When it comes to epic trails, the world offers a plethora of options that beckon hikers, trekkers, and adventurers alike. These iconic routes wind through diverse landscapes, from rugged mountains to serene coastlines, challenging both body and spirit. And what better way to conquer these trails than with the added protection of ArmaSkin—a trusted companion for blister prevention.

Here's a sample of these legendary routes which ArmaSkin fans have completed, and in fact some ArmaSkin wearers are on these trails as we go to print.

1. Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James)

The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrimage routes leading to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The most popular route, the Camino Francés stretches over 800 kilometers (500 miles) and offers a transformative experience for pilgrims. Along the way, pilgrims traverse medieval villages, rolling hills, and ancient Roman roads. The camaraderie among fellow walkers and the spiritual significance make this trail unforgettable.

Traditionally your pilgrimage to Santiago would have started from your home, nowadays, nine routes to the Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela have become the most popular Camino Ways.

With the main routes stretching 800 km (500miles) over sometimes hilly terrain, these treks typically take 30-35 days for the seasoned hiker.

Nightly accommodations at somewhat austere auberges (inns) means that pilgrims can travel with a fairly light pack but must be prepared for wide changes of weather.

Many ArmaSkin Ambassadors and fans have successfully completed the Camino, relying on ArmaSkin liner socks to keep blisters at bay. Whether walking through sunflower fields or ancient villages, their feet remained comfortable and blister-free.

2. Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)

The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) spans 4,265 kilometres (2,650 miles) from Mexico to Canada, traversing the stunning landscapes of California, Oregon, and Washington. Hikers encounter deserts, snow-capped peaks, and dense forests along this challenging trail. The PCT offers solitude, breath-taking vistas, and a chance to connect with nature.

It reveals the beauty of the desert, unfolds the glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada, travels deep forests, and provides commanding vistas of volcanic peaks in the Cascade Range. The trail symbolizes everything there is to love—and protect—in the Western United States.

Some only travel a few kilometres on day hikes, while others complete the through hike in a single season of 5-6 months. Tying the trail together is a community of volunteers and passionate outdoor enthusiasts called Trail Angels.

ArmaSkin enthusiasts Molly and Zacc, and Erick have conquered the PCT, appreciating the moisture-wicking properties and snug fit of ArmaSkin liners. In 2024 Sara, bottom right, is taking on the PCT solo as we go to press.

3. Continental Divide Trail (CDT)

The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) stretches 4,989 kilometres (3,100 miles) along the spine of the Rocky Mountains, connecting Mexico to Canada. It’s a rugged, remote trail that demands resilience and navigation skills. Hikers encounter alpine tundra, river crossings, and vast wilderness.

Erick, an ArmaSkin Ambassador known as Dogfoot who completed the PCT in 2022, is currently tackling the CDT. His tenacity and love for the wilderness drive him to explore this wild and untamed trail. ArmaSkin will be his secret weapon against blisters and discomfort as he faces rugged terrain and extreme weather conditions. Last we heard he had completed 500 miles with happy feet.

4. Croatian Long Distance Trail (CLDT)

The Croatian Long Distance Trail (CLDT) winds through Croatia’s diverse landscapes, including coastal cliffs, lush forests, and historic towns. Covering approximately 2,200 kilometres (1,400 miles), it’s a hidden gem for nature lovers. The CLDT offers glimpses of the Adriatic Sea, ancient ruins, and charming villages.

ArmaSkin Ambassador Mike, a seasoned adventurer, hast just started on the CLDT. This trail, the first of its kind in Croatia, promises remote wilderness and stunning vistas. ArmaSkin socks will keep his feet healthy and blister-free throughout this incredible journey. Mikey can be followed on Instagram @walk_for_wiggly_eyes   He is raising awareness of nystagmus.

Te Araroa Trail (New Zealand)

New Zealand’s landscape is famously various, and the trail is a natural showcase of that diversity. It winds 3000 km along coastal sand or the ridgelines of forested ranges, across farmland and volcanoes in the North Island and across the beautiful national parks, high country stations and mountain passes in the South Island.

This is an epic journey that needs careful planning not only because of the distance that will likely take around 90 days to cover but can also be subject to punishing weather conditions.

ArmaSkin Ambassadors, Mikey who went solo last year.  Maddie and Tom who completed the Trail in 2024 recorded in Fastest Known Times for the journey, all being super satisfied with the performance of their ArmaSkin.

West Highland Way  (Scotland)

West Highland Way

The Way stretches  154 Km (96 miles) from Milngavie to Fort William, taking in a huge variety of scenery along the way, from countryside parks to loch-shores and open moorlands to steep mountains.

Normally the route is completed from south to north, the thinking behind this being the southern stages are easier and will prepare you for the more demanding northern stages.

 Overland Track (Australia)

Tasmania’s Overland Track is famous the world over and its signature trip is hiking for around six days to complete the full journey from World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair.

The Track starts at Waldheim in Cradle Valley and covers some 65 kilometres through to Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest natural lake. There are plenty of side trip options including an opportunity to summit Mount Ossa.

Tasmania is rugged country and the weather can be mean! Guided hikes are thus a safe option for some.

ArmaSkin Ambassador Andrea shared her Overland Track adventure with us.
